2022 Apra-Virginia Annual Scholarship

Apra-Virginia awards one annual scholarship up to a maximum of $1,000 toward the registration or tuition fees for any prospect development-related professional conference. The funds may be used toward registration, tuition, lodging, and/or meals and will be paid directly to the conference on the recipient’s behalf; receipts will be submitted for payment of lodging and meals. If the scholarship recipient fails to attend the conference, a full refund of the scholarship will be required by the individual. In the event that there are additional scholarship funds remaining after the awardee has been selected, the scholarship committee has the discretion to offer an additional award.

All current members of Apra-Virginia are eligible and encouraged to apply! Eligible applicants include any professional whose organization is unable to cover the costs of sending him/her to a prospect development conference or who does not have an organization with whom he/she is affiliated. No stipulations or restrictions regarding professional experience or tenure in the profession apply.

Primary criteria for award determination are:
• Overall quality of the application, including strength of personal statement
• Demonstrated financial need

Current Apra-Virginia board members are ineligible to receive the scholarship award. Previous recipients of this award are also ineligible.

Applicants are required to submit a recent professional resume as well as a personal statement. The personal statement should not exceed one page. Standard 10- or 12-pt font is preferred. The personal statement must address the way in which a professional conference will enhance their prospect development skills as well as the following bullet points:
• How will attendance at a professional conference impact the applicant professionally?
• How will attendance at a prospect development - related conference benefit the applicant’s organization and/or clients?
• Why would it be impossible for the applicant to attend the conference without the scholarship?

The scholarship committee is comprised of Apra-Virginia's board members. All applications received by the deadline will be distributed among the committee members for review, ranking, and final selection.

Applications will be due by June 1, 2022. Please submit your application using this Google Form. The recipient will be notified the following week.

The scholarship winner will be required to share highlights/experiences from the conference with the Apra-Virginia membership within the year following attendance of the conference. The scholarship winner will also serve as a member of the next year’s scholarship committee.

The first Apra-Virginia scholarship was awarded in 2002. The 2005 scholarship was awarded in memory of Gregory M. Gluba (University Development, College of William & Mary).
